Welcome to Our Hospital

At Penfield Veterinary Hospital, we want your first experience to be a positive one. That’s why we’ve provided a general overview of what to expect and how to prepare for your first appointment. We also encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Things to Consider

It’s always a good idea to take extra care when bringing your pet into a new environment. For the safety of all our patients, we ask that your pet remain in a carrier or on a leash while in the waiting room. Also try scheduling your visit at a time when our hospital is less crowded since some animals can be intimidating or aggressive toward others they don’t know.

If you have a more temperamental cat or dog, feel free to discuss specific concerns with us. We’re happy to advise you on appropriate handling techniques, as well as basic training practices.

What to Bring

Please bring any health records or documents from previous veterinary providers. This includes the vaccines your pet has received, previous parasite treatments, past surgical procedures, and any other relevant medical information. We also recommend bringing in a stool sample, and we ask that every owner complete the client form available on our website.

The Exam

Every wellness visit includes a gentle yet thorough physical exam. Your veterinarian will assess the following:

Veterinarian and Dog

Gray Tabby Cat
  • Skin
  • Coat
  • Eyes
  • Ears
  • Heart
  • Lungs
  • Teeth

We also discuss appropriate vaccinations/parasite prevention, spaying/neutering and microchipping.

Remember, there are no silly questions when it comes to your pet’s health. Our team is always here to listen and provide support!
